Sponsored Event for Andrew Roberts

Sunday, June 29th 2008

This event was the first Open Karate Championship held at the St Helens Karate Club. The competition was held to raise funds for Andrew Roberts who suffers from cancer.

With such a large number of competitors there is no reason for it not to become an annual event.

Nine members from the Leeds Shotokan Karate Club took there places along with other competitors from all over the country. All in all the LSKC had a pretty good day as far as results goes. Well deserved congratulations must go to Charlie Cuddy (8th Kyu), who reached the Children’s Kata finals at his first competition, a very commendable 4th place. Well done lad, keep it up.

Another good performance came from Eliot Parsons who reached the finals in both Kata and Kumite, he achieved 3rd place Boy Kata and went on to win the individual kumite with Mathew Humpries joint 3rd. Harry Cuddy again figured in the Kata finals finishing a commendable 2nd place, Tom Rowley taking 3rd place in the Junior Male Kumite and looking very sharp, Ben Whalen joint 3rd Boys Kumite and also Will Bryan finished joint 3rd in the Senior Male Kumite event.

Although Taaj Sian and Amy McDermott didn’t get a medal this time here’s hoping that they will use the experience to help them pick up medals at future events.

Everyone performed really well, and should take credit for their good work and to take everything onboard from the competition to improve on each of there performances.

WELL DONE EVERYONE. OSS!
