KUGB National Youth Championships. Saturday July 5th: 

The LSKC took 12 competitors along to the competition, another good strong performance form everyone that took part. There was a number of members who were making there debut on the mat, and they should be pleased with themselves. Welcome to competition guys!
The usual suspects from the club all performed well and narrowly missed out on medal places. One of highlights came from Harry Cuddy executed an ashi-barai and punch technique which earned him Ippon (full point) to win in his first round match, a combination technique he practiced the day before at our kumite (fighting) session. Well done Harry.
The best performance of the day without doubt came from Ben Whalen. Ben put the pressure on his opponents from the very start of each match of the eliminations. One of the rounds saw him reverse the decision on the lad that beat him at the KUGB National Championships. Ben carried on with strong determination to make sure he took his place in the finals.
In the finals it was more of the same, no backward step was the phrase of the day. Ben took the fight to his opponent, giving no room with constant pressure from the outset, good timing and excellent counter-punching saw him take a well deserve win and the championship. Congratulations Ben.
Mathew Humphries continued his form by taking 3^rd place in his category, well done Mathew.
