Shotokan Cup Championships. Saturday September 20th.
The Competition began with the Kata event, every member of the squad entered this event,
this time round there was little success, back to the drawing board must work harder.
Shining light was Michael Gale who just missed out on a place in the finals.
The next event was individual fighting (kuimte). Some of our junior competitors were unlucky in as much as they came up against more experienced fighters.
But we will look on this as a learning curve, and hope to do better next Comp. Our more experienced competitors faired much better.
Elliott Parsons put in a very good performance where he was beaten in the semi finals; it was a hard fought match with two extensions.
Michale Gale making his appearance for 9 months fought very well winning 2 rounds by Ippon (full point).
He won his semi-final round when his opponent was disqualified for an uncontrolled punch to the head.
With the doctor advising him not to continue, he had to forfeit the final match and finished with silver.
Ben Whalen continued his fine form in kumite, once again with constant pressure, good timing and both attacking and counter-punching fought his way to the finals.
The finals were more of the same, pressure and counter-punching won him his second National Championship for the year.
Well done to the whole Squad.
Oss, Sensei Williams.
