Northern Region Championships October 12th.
Leeds Shotokan Karate Club members who competed at the Northern Region Championships.
As club instructor I was very please so many of our club members competed at the championships, 23 in total. Some of whom it was there first time in competition. They all conducted themselves very well.
There were some very good performances from the juniors in both Kata and kumite, some achieving medals.
For the first time the club entered Team kumite and Team kata in both senior and junior categories. In the team kumite event the team was beaten at the semi-finals stage, a good result for the team and will learn and work harder for greater achievement in the future.
Senior team kata was a bit of a shallow success, the event didn’t have enough teams. The team worked really hard to be ready for the competition. The junior team also worked very hard and achieved 3rd place in the finals.
In the Junior Male Kumite, Tom Rowley took 3rd place. Boys Kumite saw Eliott Parsons taking 3rd place in his category and his Brother Ethan fighting in only his second boys kumite event in the KUGB also picking up 3rd place. Jacob Reed took 3rd place in the children ippon kumite; this is a good result for Jacob as it was his first competition.
I would like to apologise to one our junior girls for wrongly entering her in one of the junior events. I was very pleased with the way she performed and she should be very please herself and should use this experience as a positive. I believe she will one day be a champion and should continue progressing the way she is doing.
