52nd KUGB National Championship: 5th May 2018

Leeds Shotokan Karate Club continuing success at the KUGB National Championship (UK) on Saturday, May 5th, 2018 at the new venue in Leicester at Morningside Leicester Arena in with a very strong squad whom all put in a sterling performance.

Leeds Shotokan Karate Club takes Gold in an all Leeds final in the following events Junior Men’s Kumite 16-17 years and 12-15 Years Girls Kumite 6th Kyu & above - Under 5’3”.

Miranda Ngonji and Libby Veron who have both improve massively on their last year's performances to reach the finals, but they had to be one winner which was Miranda Ngonji to take the gold in the 12-15 Years Girls Kumite 6th Kyu & above - Under 5’3”. Well done to both of you.

Jade Stapleton-Smith and Luciano Zanuni fought each over as they did in the last year's world championships, but this time it was the turn of Jade to finally get the upper hand this time to take the national title as the Junior Men’s Kumite 16-17 years champion.  It is worth noting that this was an exceptional result as we had three of our members take the 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place on the podium. Well done to all three of you. 

The KUGB National Championships in Senior Team Kumite Event was nearly a great result only to miss out on retaining the title with getting 2nd place in the final. 

A special mention of Billy Pinder who put in a commendable performance for the first at 
in reaching the semi-final to get 3rd Place on the podium. Well done. competition this

 

All of our competitors deserve to be commended for their excellent displays of skill, attitude and camaraderie throughout the event.

Masterclass Session Sensei John Bruce and Sensei Holly Sterling: 9th April 2018 

Thank you to KUGB - Sensei John Bruce and Sensei Holly Sterling from Sendai Kushiro for such an excellent masterclass session on Monday 9th April 2018 at the Roundhegians Dojo. The class was full of technical detail for all take away and practise. Thanks to all who took the time to attend. Keep improving everyone.

Club News: 14th March 2018

Congratulations to Leeds Shotokan Karate Club member Luciano Zanuni who won the Leeds Young Sportsman of the Year Award at the Leeds Sports Awards at the Leeds Arena on Wednesday 14th March 2018. This award was presented after his superb success with representing the KUGB England Squad at the following competitions:

 

Gold - Youth Individual Kumite - World Shotokan Karate Association 2017

Silver - Youth Individual Kumite - European Shotokan Karate Association 2017

    

KUGB Grand Slam News: 24th February 2018

Fantastic results for the Leeds Shotokan Karate Club were ten of our members represented their country - England at KUGB (Karate Union of Great Britain) Grand Slam event at the Queen Sports Centre in Chesterfield.

Five of our club members medaled in their categories with Jade Stapleton-Smith and Luciano Zanuni moving up to the next category of 16 to 17 Years and became an all Leeds Shotokan Karate Club finals rematch as per the last years WSKA World Championships 2017 with Jade Stapleton-Smith again to be beaten by his club mate Luciano Zanuni who achieved 1st place in his category.

The star of the KUGB Grand Slam for LSKC was Miranda Ngonji with her first time at the competition with a fantastic result in coming 1st in her category.

It was also another sterling performance from Ethan Armstrong who is at the top of his game and came a solid 1st in the category as he did in the last year event - Junior 18-20 Years  Male Individual Kumite. 

It was also another consistent performance from our Sensei Ryan Tucker who got to the final to only to disappointed by England team-mate and comes 2nd Place in the Senior Male Individual Kumite.   

 

It was also Jade Stapleton-Smith and Luciano Zanuni first time to be selected for the Cadet Team Kumite for the grand slam event who both put in excellent performances in helping the England team to get 1st Place. 

Sensei Ryan Tucker and Ethan Armstrong were also selected for the male team kumite events and both England team get the 1st place within their team events.

KUGB England Kumite Squad News: 28th January 2018

Congratulation to our Leeds Shotokan Karate Club Members who where selected for the KUGB England Kumite Squad 2018 at the Fire Fit in Liverpool. The following members who were selected are Sensei Ryan Tucker, Elizabeth Hardman, Ethan Armstrong, James Humphries, Tushan Joseph, Jade Stapleton-Smith, Luciano Zanuni, Nathan Brady, Miranda Ngonji and Liberty Vernon. Also a special mention to the four new members of who have been selected for the first time. Well done everyone.
